Discount Travel Secret: On the road again

Discount Travel Secrets: We're Heading Back Out On The Road!

Hi Reader,

This week I will be off on my next road tripping adventure!

The idea started out as a quick trip to pick up my Grammy in Florida and drive her up to Ohio for Memorial Day weekend.

But then, my youngest sister said that my trip wasn't that far off from her birthday and she didn't have any plans yet *hint hint*.

So then I expanded the trip.

I decided to take advantage of this opportunity to use up last year's timeshare points before they expire.

Side story - we bought the bare minimum points to buy-in back in 2020 when they were practically giving them away because no one was traveling πŸ’ͺ

They told us that it would cover about 7-10 nights a year.

But when you look at the points to money conversion rate, it actually gives us 25 nights a year on average, or the equivalent of spending $125 per night.

So for the same price that we spend on a typical Hampton Inn stay on our road trips, we're getting a 1-2 bedroom suite with a full kitchen, separate living space, and all sorts of other amenities.

But anyway, I'm trying to stay at every single resort at least once (mostly so I can make a room tour video of each one because those do wonders over on our Youtube channel).

With all of that in mind, I'll be on the road for about 2 1/2 weeks and I'll be visiting 4 new-to-me resorts!

Once I check out of each one, I'll be publishing a blog post review, a room tour walk-through video on Youtube, and then sharing those on all of our social media - Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest.

I also have a couple brand collabs lined up along the way πŸ‘€

I head out on Tuesday, so be sure to follow along on Instagram in real-time!

Next week's email will have a breakdown of different methods we used to make this trip as cheap as possible.

The posts I'm sharing this week are a hint at some of the places I'll be going on this trip:

🎒 🎟️ Attractions 🎒 🎟️

25 Secret Things To Do At Disney World

One of the perks of having visited and lived at Disney World is that I've had the opportunity to explore all the extras outside the parks.

There are so many activities you can do that are way cheaper than you'd think and you don't have to be staying at a Disney resort to do these.

Just last year, my sister and I went canoeing for $4!

πŸ¨β›ΊοΈ Lodging 🏨 ⛺️

Mystic Dunes Resort & Golf Club

Mystic Dunes is one of the most popular Hilton resorts outside of Disney World.

It's only a 10-15 minute drive to the theme parks and water parks.

I've stayed here 3 times recently and my favorite part is that the 2 bedroom suites are usually the cheapest room types because they just have so many available.

My last stay when I used points to stay here, it was the equivalent of $106 per night.

Last year, over Christmas, I booked my sister there for 4 nights in a 2 bedroom and the points equivalent was $67 per night!

🍽️ Dining 🍽️

10 Best Cheap Restaurants in Dayton, Ohio

Obviously Skyline Chili is the best place to go for cheap food in Dayton, Ohio, but there are a ton of other places where you can get a full meal for $15 or less (that's not fast food). πŸ’πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

There's also a location just outside of Disney World that I go to all the time.

🚘 ✈️ Transportation 🚘 ✈️

How To Get Between Theme Parks Using Your Own Transportation

From my other blog, Mouse Transportation Tips, which is all about helping you navigate Disney World:

If you're driving to Disney and want to park hop without ditching your car, this post helps you navigate park hopping by driving from park to park (or using alternative non-Disney transportation methods).

See you next week,

Eva and JP πŸ’Ž

Discount Travel Secrets: Self Guided Audio Driving Tours Hi Reader, One of my favorite things to book for road trips lately has been self guided audio driving tours. Not regular tours where you have to show up at a certain time and follow a giant group around. These are the kind you download on your phone and do completely at your own pace while driving. They make road trips SO much more interesting. We first started using them in Maui because there’s so many stops along the Road to Hana, the...

Discount Travel Secrets: Save On A Florida Vacation Hi Reader, I just spent 2 weeks in Florida and my grand total of spending was $389.78! Here's the breakdown by sector of the tourism industry: Transportation = $190.42 I drove my own car, so no rental costs or airfare costs I spent $190.42 on gas and drove about 2,500 miles round trip Toll expenses are still TBD I did get an oil change before the trip, which was like $70, but that's something I would have had to regardless, so I don't...
